James J. "Bunk" Carver
May 11, 2010

The unsolved homicide of James J. “Bunk” Carver continues to be one of the most brutal cases that the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate.

James Carver was 82 years old when sometime between the dates of May 11th and May 13th of 2010 he was brutally beaten to death of an assailant(s) inside his residence, which was located at 655 James Carver Road in Seneca, which is just off of Highway 59. The information on the timeline of the dates comes from the last time he was seen, as well as the autopsy. The body of Mr. Carver was found in the bathroom, but evidence was found in the kitchen area of the home as well.

Investigators believe that the beating was personal considering the severity of the beating and the feeling among investigators is that Mr. Carver knew his assailant(s) due to the fact that there was no forced entry into the home. Mr. Carver was beaten about the upper torso area and the head and investigators do believe that he was targeted.

“He opened the door. According to all accounts, he kept the door locked,” according to Investigators. “No one could just walk into the house and he opened the door and let in whoever committed this crime.”

Investigators believe robbery could be a possible motive in the crime as something appeared to have been taken out from under one of the beds, according to Captain Reed. There have been persons of interest in the case, but not enough probable cause to make an arrest. That is why the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help to help solve the case.

If you have any information on the unsolved homicide of James J. “Bunk” Carver, please call Crime Stoppers 1-844-71CRIME (1-844-712-7463). You don’t have to give your name and if your tip leads to an arrest, you could eligible for a cash reward.
